A different photo every day in StandBy
StandBy turns an iPhone on a charger into a bedside display. Apple's own photo widget shows featured photos, chosen for you and shuffled. If you want it to show the one photo you kept for the day, with the date and the line you wrote, that is what DailyAlbum's widget does.
How to set it up
Put the iPhone on a charger in landscape. StandBy starts on its own.
Swipe to the widget page, press and hold, then add the DailyAlbum widget.
The widget shows the day's photo, its date and your note. It changes once a day, not on shuffle.
How it differs from Apple's photo widget
The built-in widget draws from Featured Photos or an album and rotates through them. It is a good screensaver and you have little say in what appears.
DailyAlbum shows the photo you kept for that day. One a day, in order, with its note. If you want a specific picture on the screen, you choose it in the calendar and the widget follows.
Which iPhones
StandBy needs iOS 17, so an iPhone XS or newer. Always-on (the display staying lit without a tap) needs an iPhone 14 Pro or newer; older models light up on a tap or when the phone is moved. At night StandBy turns red and dims by design.
An old iPhone on a charger is the intended use: it becomes a small frame that costs nothing.
A bigger frame, and a family frame
Frame Mode fills the whole screen with the photo in a wooden frame, on an iPhone or an iPad on a stand, or on a TV over AirPlay.
With DailyAlbum Family, the same day arrives on your family's devices, so their StandBy shows your photo of the day in their house.
Questions
Can I pick which photo appears?
Yes. The widget shows the photo kept for that day, and you can change that photo in the calendar.
Is the widget free?
Yes. Widgets and StandBy are part of the free app.
Why is my StandBy red at night?
That is iOS, not the app: StandBy dims to red in a dark room.
